Duties of the Officers
Section 1.
The powers and duties of the President shall be:

Duties of the Officers
Section 1.
The powers and duties of the President shall be:
- to call and preside at meetings of the Kindred;
- to be the official representative of the Black Student Coalition;
- to form special committees;
- to appoint officers in the case of vacancy with the consent of two thirds of the Kindred;
- to dismiss any officer or member with the consent of two thirds of the Kindred;
- and to encourage the morale and familial association of the Kindred.
Section 2.
The powers and duties of the Vice President shall be:
- to assume the duties of the president in his or her absence or incapacity;
- to succeed in the office of the president and serve the remainder of the unexpired term should the office of the president become vacant;
- to assist the president;
- to ensure that committees are functioning according to these bylaws;
- and to preside over the Executive Council meetings.
Section 3.
The powers and duties of the Secretary shall be:
- to make and keep accurate minutes of all called and regular meetings of the Kindred and Executive Council and record attendance at all meetings;
- to organize files of the Kindred;
- to prepare the agenda for meetings;
- to assist the president in drafting correspondence;
- to compile directories for the Kindred, contacts, and alumnus;
- to be responsible for maintain attendance sheets at all Black Student Coalition general meetings as well as at meetings of Executive Council;
- and to coordinate voice mail and electronic mail distribution.
Section 4.
The powers and duties of the Treasurer shall be:
- to work with all officers regarding all monetary and economic affairs of the Kindred;
- to prepare a detailed financial report to present to members at regular meetings regarding the state of affairs of the Kindred;
- to act as the chief financial officer responsible for insuring the proper handling of accounts in accordance with rules and regulations;
- to coordinate the Executive Council creation of the annual budget proposal beginning no later than the first week in March and ending with the submission of the proposal to the Activities and Tax Council;
- and to keep accurate books concerning the monetary transactions of the Kindred.
Section 5.
The powers and duties of the House Manager shall be:
- to be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the house;
- to maintain a calendar of events and schedule activities that are to take place at the house;
- to keep house rules current and posted;
- to make budget requests for house needs;
- to supervise and schedule house clean up activities;
- to handle maintenance requests and other house related business with proper authorities (e.g., work orders);
- to secure the house and its contents during holidays;
- to keep a current list of valuable items and pertinent information (serial numbers, etc.) on file with campus police;
- to keep member informed of the house activities (e.g., notes on bulletin board) and to act as a liaison between the Kindred, administration, and public in matters;
- to appoint committees to carry out house-related activities;
- to submit a projected budget to the treasurer;
- and to ensure that the membership contract is up to date and signed by all members.
Section 6.
The powers and duties of the Special Events Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call and direct Special Events Committee in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of Special Events Committee;
- to submit project budgets for relative committees to the Treasurer;
- and to coordinate all special events for the members and perform other special event activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 7.
The powers and duties of the Social Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call and direct Social Committee in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of Social Committee;
- to submit project budgets for Social Committee to the Treasurer;
- and to coordinate all social events for the members and perform other social activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 8.
The powers and duties of the Community Relations and Social Action Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call and direct Community Relations and Social Action Committee in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of Community Relations and Social Action Committee;
- to submit project budgets for Community Relations and Social Action Committee to the Treasurer;
- and to coordinate all community relation and/or social action projects for the members and perform other community relation and social action activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 9.
The powers and duties of the Admission and Orientation Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call direct relative committees in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of relative committees;
- to submit project budgets for relative committees to the Treasurer;
- to handle alumni relations;
- and to coordinate all admission & orientation events for the Black Student Coalition and perform other admission and orientation activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 10.
The powers and duties of the Public Relations Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call direct the Public Relations Committee in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of the Public Relations Committee;
- to submit project budgets for public relations committee to the Treasurer;
- and to handle all marketing and public relations for the Black Student Coalition perform other public relations activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 11.
The powers and duties of the Black History Month Committee Chairperson shall be:
- to call direct Black History Month Committee in accordance with these bylaws;
- to call and preside over meetings of Black History Month Committee;
- to submit project budgets for Black History Month Committee to the Treasurer;
- and to coordinate the Black History Month events for the month of February and to perform other Black History Month activities as may be appropriate and necessary.
Section 12.
The powers and duties of the Historian shall be:
- to keep an accurate record of events in the scrapbook;
- to keep flyers of all events in the scrapbook;
- to organize the archives;
- to coordinate photography at events;
- and to maintain the BSC website.
Section 13.
The powers and duties of the SGA/DCB representative shall be:
- to represent Kindred interests in the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Diversity Coordinating Board (DCB);
- to report regularly to the Kindred the relevant activities of the SGA and DCB;
- and to serve as an active link between the BSC and SGA and DCB.
Section 14.
The powers and duties of the Freshman Representative shall be:
- to represent the interests of the freshmen members of the Kindred;
- to head up committees as appointed by the President;
- to communicate needs of entire Kindred;
- and to maintain an active committee of freshmen to create programs directed at freshmen.
Section 15.
The powers and duties of the Parliamentarian shall be:
- to ensure that the bylaws and parliamentary procedure are followed at all Kindred and Executive Council meetings;
- to oversee all voting activity of the Kindred and Executive Council;
- and to inform members during the first meeting of each semester of the procedures for absentee ballots during elections.
